Brenda Silva, a Provincetown native of Portuguese decent, will be showing her art work during the Provincetown Portuguese Festival weekend, June 26th through June 29th. Having been brought up in this fishing village , and America’s oldest Art Colony, Brenda is able to lend a truly heartfelt and knowledgeable hand to the oil paintings she creates of the fishing fleet, old and new as time has changed the face of the fleet and the view from the pier. Brenda’s work has been featured in several places in Provincetown; she currently paints in her working studio, Studio S., 3rd level of Whalers Wharf, and exhibits in The Gallery at the Whalers Wharf Cinema. This year Brenda has had the honor of designing the image for the Portuguese Festival Tee Shirt, sister fishing boats from Olhao, Portugal and Provincetown, USA. An image of one of Brenda’s paintings also graces the cover of the Provincetown Chamber of Commerce Guide for 2008. And she has designed the sign for the new Pilgrim Bark Park, currently under construction. The Festival exhibit will feature many paintings of the fishing fleet, and Provincetown Harbor scenes, including the painting of the image for the Festival shirt. The show will be in THE GALLERY at Whalers Wharf Cinema, installed June 20th, and on display for 2 weeks. The opening reception for the Portuguese Festival / Blessing of the Fleet show will be June 26th, from 7-9 P.M.
Although Brenda is the featured artist for this show, it is a group show for the artist’s occupying spaces at Whalers Wharf, including, Scott Bowden, Randa Krise, Joni Cozza Mansfield, Peter McDonough, Lisa-Marie Nowakowski, Jim Rann, Brenda Haywood and Wave. Each week, the artists display their diverse styles and have opening receptions which feature each artist for 2 weeks during the summer, and through most of the year. The Gallery at Whalers Wharf Cinema is located on the second floor and is accessible by elevator.
