Provincetown 4th of July Week Posted: Sunday, July 5th 2009, 11:09 AM by Provincetown Blogger

The fireworks had been dispensed with, and the 4th of July parade down Commercial St, a resounding success, you’ve danced the night away and meted out more than your fair share of merriment, what to do the morning after? You’ll find that celebrating our America’s birthday is not just a day long affair in Provincetown but more like a week-long event. Nightlife : Crown & Anchor’s Paramount Club, Provincetown’s biggest nightclub, hosts Independence 2009, a weeklong 4th of July celebration featuring world renowned DJs and local favorites Tony Moran, Susan Morabito, David Knapp, Joe Gauthreaux and resident DJ Chris Racine. Wave Video and Pool Bar, also inside The Crown’s entertainment complex, features Yaz TV, Movie Musical Nights - a mix of stage and movie clips, and HumpDay Karaoke every Wednesday with Ms Thirsty Burlington.
The Atlantic House, or A-House, is the oldest nightclub in town, is open year round. A series of themed parties, for which the A-House is known for, is a happening place all week from July 3 to the 10th. To celebrate the nation’s Independence, A-House hosts several themed parties - take your pick, Muscles, Pecs or Ripped party. See who has the best set in town. Apart from the dance club, A-House also has a Little Bar, perfect for mingling with friends amid a relaxing drink. If you like a more European beat, head towards Club Purgatory where DJ Scott spins on Monday’s Euro night.
For those who are more into leather and decided darker beat, you’ll The Vault, Macho Bar or Club Purgatory more to your taste. A-House’s Macho Bar, Provincetown's original leather and Levi bar provides an alternative to the club scene. This dark sensual room comes complete with a cage and is a popular hang-out for those into the leather, Levi or uniform scene. The Vault, located at the Crown & Anchor, is a cruisy hangout for the Bear, Leather and uniform crowds complete with a tire swing, pulsing music and boot black station. Ditto for Club Purgatory with DJ Ian playing dark beats for this legendary Sunday night of leather! Looking for an excuse to dust off those leather chaps and riding crop? Now's your chance to spank your weekend for being bad and embark on a night of naughty fun! designed to make even the toughest leather daddy blush.
Women are certainly not to be left out, with Vixen and the Pied Bar geared more toward the Lesbian crowd.
Cabaret
Provincetown is a mecca, not only for same sex marriages but for the abundance of artists, cabaret performances and festivals that happen in this tip of the Cape town.
This July 4th week, the cabaret calendar of events looks full as ever.
Day Tripper
If you’re just coming to town for the day, have no fear, there’s more to whales and shopping for you to choose from. After yesterday’s revelry, why not hop on the Long Point shuttle provided by Flyer’s Boat Rentals and enjoy endless walks on a quiet stretch of beach away from the madding crowd on Commercial St. Or perhaps you’d like to take a spin in one of Mad Maxine’s Jet ski. If you’d rather stay dry, hop on a trolley for a 40 minute narration bringing you through the National Seashore and past historical landmarks. You may also be interested to go on a dune tour with Art’s Daily Tours, taking through the back roads and over dunes for an amazing experience. Then of course, one of the most amazing things you can do in town is hop on a whale watching boat and watch as those gentle giants of the sea come up to feed and expel air. It’s an event best experienced.
Shopping
From east end to west end, Commercial Street is filled with a mix of restaurants, retailers, art galleries and coffee shops. Some of our favorite shops include Chadingtons with its eclectic mix of whimsical and traditional home décor. Housed in a Greek revival ship captain’s house with Victorian detailing, Chadingtons is set a little back from the street, with room for shoppers to shop, pause, rest and get your bearings before continuing your leisurely walk to the other end of town. Not far from Chadingtons lie Luchima, with interesting and high quality gift items as well as serving the location for Doug Marr gallery where you’ll find beautiful oil paintings depicting scenes from around Provincetown. If you’re hunting for something more kitsch and twisted, you might enjoy a visit to Aunt Fanny’s garage where all kinds of mugs, dragons, gargoyles and hilarious Christmas tree hangings can be found.
This July 4th week, don’t just go to your usual haunts, discover something new – people, places and trinkets – you’ll be surprised at the many surprises Provincetown has to offer for whatever kind of visitor you want to be.
